Same Site, Different Funny

Another great quote from this site which promotes a Creationist Science Fair is too great: "This is also the first year that Muslim students from the Al-Jannah Islamic school have been invited to participate; two of their students presented a project on human anatomy entitled 'Allah (SWT) Created Me' which, while it was found ineligible for a prize due to a number of Biblical inconsistencies, did win a special Interfaith Outreach ribbon."

"Thermodynamics Of Hell Fire" - Tom Williamson (grade 12) only got an honorable mention? What's up with that? :) Terrific site. Ben

It says something about contemporary religion, I think, that it took me so long to realize this site is a parody. I clicked on the clothing for sale at the bottom of the page and from there, it started to become clear.

There's a lot of this arch-satire going on, I've noticed, sites that are pushing the line of believability. Landoverbaptist.com is the best at it, but Whitehouse.com is funny, too. Both get great letters from people thinking they're real.

A few months back a conservative legislator from some midwest state had to quash an internet spoof-turned-rumor that he was trying to change Highway I-69 to a more family-friendly number.

Check out landover baptist, which is a little more over the top and even funnier.

Shoot, James beat me to it. I was showing the site to someone else; as soon as we got to the cafepress site, we knew.

Well, I think you're right, but it's so well done. That guy on the main page Paley seems to be real, so when I did a search on him, I found all this horrible stuff. I like it better than Landover I think because I find this believable. Sad as that is. In doing research on the site, I found about as many saying it's real as not, so I decided to post it. I just love that "number of biblical inconsistencies" part. That still gets me. This site has been up--as a joke--for four years I read in another post elsewhere.

It's very interesting. I keep seeing people scratching their heads. Someone will come out and say, "it's for sure a fake" and then someone will come out and say, "I don't know." Weird. Do a search.

I mean, ok, it can't be real, but it's almost like the person making the site is like the character from The Simpsons who when asked, "are you being sarcastic" replies mournfully, "I don't know anymore."

Yeah, exactly. I wonder what the intention is. Are they being that coy on purpose? Somebody (The Supreme Court?) defined protected satire as something that no reasonable person would think is serious (like Hustler claiming Falwell had fucked a goat). But this doesn't seem to fit that criteria.

On the other hand, there's the quote from some film director: Irony is defined as what 90% of the audience doesn't get.

By the way, Sean, how did you get such a cool site design? Did you tweak it or is this one of the options?

It's just a template. I didn't touch it. What are your plans for the weekend? Write me at gmail if you get this.
